What makes Sofra different

Recipes from real home kitchens

214 Lebanese and Syrian home recipes — Lebanese dishes collected from families who have cooked them for generations, and 49 from Faten, a generous home cook in our Beirut building, originally from Idlib province in Syria. Every recipe traceable to the kitchen it came from.

Hands-free voice narration

Cooking mode reads every recipe step aloud — text-to-speech narration on most dishes (English or Arabic), plus four of Faten's dishes in her voice, digitally recreated from her own recordings. Phone on the counter, voice in the room, hands in the dough. The way recipes are taught at home.

Music composed pro bono

Cooking mode includes a piece of oud music composed for our family, pro bono, by Charbel Rouhana — one of Lebanon's most respected oud masters. It plays only inside the app, only during cooking mode, and only with permission.

Idlib home cooking, documented

49 of the recipes are home cooking from Idlib province in Syria — to our knowledge the first dedicated English-language collection of that province's home dishes. Idlib has long been folded into pan-Syrian and Aleppo cookbooks; we wanted to surface it as its own kitchen.

Cultural commitments, in the open

How Faten gets paid, how attribution works, how we honour the home cooks behind these dishes — published openly inside the app under Settings, and at sofrabeirut.com/commitments. The economic model is part of the product, not behind a wall.

Designed for diaspora

English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Turkish, Farsi, Russian, Chinese. Full right-to-left layout for Arabic and Farsi. Brazilian Portuguese pricing localised for the largest Lebanese community outside Lebanon. Dearborn to São Paulo.
